Since 1935, renowned British automakers; Jaguar Cars Ltd. has been assembling vehicles under the name. Sir William Lyons and William Walmsley were founders of the company in 1922 by the name Swallow Sidecar Company. Ever since, firm has manufactured a dozen sports and luxury vehicles known around the world for their sleek performance and excellent manoeuvrability.

Jaguar boasts lots of features that make it one of the most luxurious brands in automobile industry, even today. Original models

The SS90 and SS100 were original models released by Jaguar. First sold model in 1935 was SS90 with its 6-cylinder engine was capable to produce 68 horsepower output. Since released, there were mixed reactions about the vehicle while experts concluded it to have the most stunning looks but lack performance. SS100 came out to be a perfect fit for both style and performance a year later boasting the same 6-cylinder engine however produced 100 horsepower. Additional features include twin carburettors and synchromesh gears. Production lasted till 1940 and this vehicle proved worthy in every aspect.

A look at early Jaguars

Jaguar earned reputation as a producer of high-performance and super stylish vehicles, following the World War II. Company launched the XK120 roadster in 1948 and the name referred to its super speed of 120 mph at that time. The car broke world speed record at that time and featured a rear-wheel/front engine design with 3.4 litre XK, 6-cylinder engine. It made a big hit in car racing tournaments and even got sponsorship from different celebrities. The XK140 and XK150 succeeded the model in 1954 and 1957 respectively.

Dawn of luxury cars

Jaguar marked the dawn of luxury vehicles and more fantastic models came out gradually. The Mark V was originally sold in 1948 following all the way to Mark X in 1970. These vehicles were especially designed and promoted as ultra-super, luxury cars and were most expensive, one-of-its-kind at that time. By 1950s, automobiles from Jaguar were categorised as distinct style that featured a chrome grill and jaguar insignia. Throughout 1950s and 1960s, luxury vehicles by Jaguar grew in size, features and design. By 1970, company released 200 inches car that topped every other release.

Sports cars

Company introduced an ­E-Type sports vehicle in 1961 that continued production till 1975 having a series of 6-cylinder engines plus 5.3-litre V12 later. This gave the car unimaginable super-fast speed whereas it offered both a coupe and convertible style. The E-Type appeared on top of the list in sports car category, both in terms of appearance and performance. It even became a prime collector’s item! Jaguar XJS came out as a replacement in 1976 taking luxury and performance to new heights however car was recognised more of a tourist vehicle. It also has the same engine features to that of E-Type.

Late luxury models

X series of luxury cars came out in 1968 that included the XJ6, XJ12 and XJ8 array. The names were designated as per number of engine cylinders. Ongoing production throughout the year bring-forth a line of X series luxury sedans, competing directly with luxury car manufacturers namely Bentley, Rolls Royce and Mercedes-Benz. Jaguar brought many luxury features in these models that became common in later releases. Digital displays appeared in later models that became an icon of super luxurious vehicles.
